Roy is frequently invited to speak at running events & seminars and as keynote speaker. In addition, he also serves as a running event official / marshal.
Roy has given presentations to charitable organizations, K-12 school and university level students, as well as businesses and U.S. Military personnel.
Roy Pirrung wrote a weekly newspaper column on healthy living through exercise and nutrition. Also, he has been a contributor to numerous runner magazines. Roy also contributed a story to the “Chicken Soup for the Soul” book series which was published in their book: "Chicken Soup for the Soul: Runners 101 Inspirational Stories of Energy, Endurance, and Endorphins". Roy is currently working on his own book and hopes to have it finished soon.
Mr. Pirrung has given many presentations to area and state running clubs to motivate them and to inform them of the benefits of a lifestyle he has accomplished. Since going from an obese, two-pack-a-day smoker and heavy drinker to a USATF Masters Hall of Fame athlete, Roy enjoys sharing his journey with others so that they too can lead a healthy lifestyle.
He frequently is invited to speak at running events, seminars, and was the keynote speaker at the Sunmart Texas Trail Endurance Run’s pasta banquet in Houston, the largest trail ultra event in the country, and keynote speaker at Milwaukee’s Lakefront Marathon.
Roy has been a frequent guest sports commentator on local radio. Listen to his Sept 16, 2024 appearance. He has also given presentations to elementary, high school and university level students, as well as being a clinician for numerous running clinics at local health clubs, YMCA’s, and high school teams. He has also assisted the Wisconsin Track Coaches Association as a clinician on long distance running, advising coaches in the methods he uses physically and mentally to run at the highest level.
Roy has an outreach program to area businesses through their wellness committees and promotes exercise and healthy nutrition to numerous corporate groups.
As part of one of his sponsors’ programs, “Peak Performance”, he went into schools and discussed the benefits he has gained from eating healthy and exercising for weight control management and physical fitness.
Roy addressed 2300 people at the Directions in Health conference held in Longview, Texas that met to discuss food supplementation. He also spoke at Marquette University on the subject of obesity and the means to overcome it and control it.
Frequently, he gives talks on goal setting and has talked to numerous groups of sales people, including all new sales associates for another of his sponsors. He is sought by corporate sales meetings to discuss the importance of setting and reaching goals, utilizing others, challenging oneself and staying successful through sound work ethics.
Roy has also donated his time and talents to area charitable organizations, including keynote speeches for the United Way, Mental Health Association, American Diabetes Association, American Cancer Society and many others. He also has acted as an emcee at fundraising events on behalf of numerous charities. He has been the co-chair for the Road American Run/Walk for ACS since 1998.
Roy was a newspaper columnist for over 5 years and wrote a weekly column on healthy living through exercise and nutrition. He also contributes his writing skills to area running club newsletters and is a contributor to other running publications, including, Marathon and Beyond and Ultrarunning Magazine, two nationally circulated magazines. He is currently writing his autobiography.
His communication skills have been well spent in promoting healthy lifestyle changes, dedication, commitment, goal setting, mental toughness and achievement as his objective to inspire others.
